Sustainable September

TRAVEL VASE HOW-TO

It’s Sustainable September, which is a time to raise awareness for increasing your sustainable practices in your day-to-day life. Here’s a little how-to for reusing those food jars that usually end up in the recycling bin.

I know I’m not the only one who saves food jars, right? (Well, if you don’t save them yet, hopefully you’ll start!) I love gifting fresh blooms, and jars are a perfect way to transport them. Hello travel vase!

 1.     Remove the label. For most jars, this requires an additional step, but I’ve found that using CitraSolv is a super easy way to do that.

2.    Clean the jar as well as you can.

3.    Use pretty washi tape (Japanese decorative tape), ribbon or a fabric remnant to tie the lid on. This ensures that it can be further reused!

4.    Fill with fresh flowers or herbs (can you imagine the aroma of a freshly-cut bouquet of rosemary, basil and sage?!) or dried flowers for an everlasting arrangement.

Jars can also be reused for anything from bulk food storage (nuts, grains, dried fruits), snack carriers when traveling, office supply storage, a found treasure home (shells, gems, pebbles), terrarium or even dyeing textiles!
