Where the Desert Meets the Ocean

I announced today that my partner (Drew) and I are now proud owners of a beautiful bungalow in El Pescadero, Mexico, which is just one hour north of Los Cabos. We are so thrilled! It’s in a small community of thirteen bungalows, just a ten minute walk to a swim / surf beach, and a ten minute drive to Todos Santos, which is the town that we first came to know and love. The area is so unique with its giant cacti (Saguaro), rough desert land and dirt roads, pockets of palm trees, mountains to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west. Absolute magic.

How did we stumble upon such an opportunity? Kismet. :)

Since we’ve been visiting the Baja peninsula, we’ve been on the lookout for affordable real estate to purchase and create an income property, as well as a nice place for us to stay when we come to visit. We toured a number of homes and drove for hours through the stunning desert neighborhoods, but realized that since we are Americans, we’d have to pay for a home outright – no loans involved. Eek!

But, in the Fall of 2021, something serendipitous happened. Drew and I came across a very subtle advertisement for Casa Hygge (OK, I saw the CH logo sticker on a truck), an eco-friendly community that was in its pre-construction phase. We coordinated to meet the owners of the development at the plot of land in which they were going to build – the land was leveled and each bungalow’s space was mapped out, but there were no materials yet. We chatted with for a few hours (instant connection!) and soon thereafter, our dreams of owning a home in Baja gradually came to fruition.

We, along with twelve other “neighbors”, are owners of our own modern studio bungalows in the Casa Hygge community! Each bungalow has the same layout (some flipped the opposite way), furniture, and details, but are gradually becoming more of their own “vibe” with customization. While staying in our bungalow for the first time over Memorial Day weekend, we added some personal touches to our bungalow. We found some great pieces at The Co-Op Baja (a fab home furnishings shop in Todos Santos) to add, as well as some items from our own home.

The owners were mindful of all designs: custom Mexican rosewood furniture throughout, comfortable linens, hand-placed river stone shower floors, efficient storage options (closet, built-in shelves, and hooks), and sleek spiral stairs to the rooftop patio where there’s more custom furniture, jaw-dropping views of the ocean and mountains, a partially covered pergola with lights, and cute potted plants galore. Each bungalow has a cozy king size bed, kitchen, living area, porch with seating area, bathroom, storage space, washer / dryer combo, rooftop lounge, TV, strong wifi (great for those of us who can work anywhere!), air conditioning, and fans. Its perfect for a stay of any length, from a long weekend (Cabo is just a 2.5 hour flight from Denver!) to a month or more.

Shared amenities include a game room (pool, darts, TV with hangout area, boardgames, and mini library) with sky gym above, swimming pool with loungers and umbrellas, fire pit with cozy chairs, and lovely plants and gardens throughout the grounds. Oh – and a covered parking space, which is a must in Baja!

Drew and I decided to name our bungalow Cielo Pacífico, which means “peaceful sky” in español. The skies down there are immensely vibrant! One of our favorite things about the location. :)

I could go on and on about how great Cielo Pacífico and Casa Hygge are, but just come to visit yourself! You can book via the Casa Hygge website (just email them to request Cielo Pacífico – bookings@casahyggemexico.com) or if you’d rather, you can book through Airbnb! If you’re on Instagram, please give our account a follow!

And, if you have any questions for me, don’t hesitate to reach out! I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about the bungalow, community, or things to do in the area.

PS: Here are a sprinkle of images I took on our first stay in our Mexican home, including a porch visitor on our last night (I hear it’s good luck)! :)
