Give Value

Note: This is a repost which discusses why folks are on the Instagram platform.

Give value. Give value. Give value. And then ask for business.” ~Gary Vaynerchuck

I'm even guilty of this, but I've changed my ways. It's hard not to want to just promote yourself when you just start out...

✨️ BUT ✨️

The NUMBER ONE reason why people are on Instagram is to LEARN SOMETHING. Whether they're interested in health, crafts, fashion or finance, IG is an easy way to follow and interact with accounts that are laying out knowledge and are intriguing.

I've had a few SMM (social media management) clients who weren't interested in giving up some of their insider info to create interesting content. Instead, they wanted followers to pay for their services before giving away the goods. In turn, their content fell flat. They didn't get very much interaction or interest and the work we did in putting the posts together was sort of a flop.

Social content should be a good balance of:
■ Knowledge / Value Add
■ Inspiration
■ Niche-related
■ Personal Shares
■ Sales

** Note that personal doesn't necessarily mean private. (Ex: all the deets on you and your partner's relationship.) But, it does mean that common interests / opinions can be shared freely – these encourage conversation, TRUST and get people paying attention. (Ex: your journey with health and how you healed your body through food.)

Now, my account isn't filled to the brim with ground-breaking content and clever stories, but I do love putting together bits of business tips with inspirational quotes I come across, sharing businesses that I love (encouraging shopping small), sprinkling in design tips and sharing sneak peeks of what inspires me. That's me and what I envision for my account. ✨️

You do you, boo and create your vision. But remember – add some value!

~Rachel
